概要 Swell flapping is a new self-induced free surface oscillation, which was caused by the interaction between a jet, a free surface and a structure. An upward round jet was injected into a cylinderical tank from an inlet channel at the bottom center. The jet impinged on the bottom of a cylinderical upper inner structures(UIS) which was set just beneath the free surface of the tank. Then, the jet separated at the edge of the UIS. The separated jet oscillated with forming a swell of free surface around the UIS, i.e., "swell flapping". The effects of the system parameters on the swell flapping were experimentally clarified. The onset condition and the frequency of the swell flapping depended mainly on the UIS-surface distance and jet inlet velocity. The onset condition of the swell flapping shifted to higher jet velocity with increasing the UIS-surface distance. The frequency of the swell flapping decreased with incresing jet inlet velocity. The Swell flapping was considered to be excited by the interaction between separated jet and free surface.
